Marvel Custom Solutions and The Children’s Hearing Institute Partner to Produce Educational Comic Book and Teacher’s Guide for NYC Department of Education

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE New York, NY – October 8, 2014 – The Children’s Hearing Institute has announced a unique partnership with Marvel Custom Solutions to produce a custom comic book entitled “SOUND EFFECTS” along with a Teacher’s Guide for children in grades 3-7. To be released in late October, the Marvel custom comic book and Teacher’s Guide will reach approximately 150,000 students in the New York City schools using Marvel’s In-School Network Distribution System with plans for further expansion outside of the New York five boroughs

SOUNDS EFFECTSfeatures the world famous Marvel Comics’ Avenger, Iron Man as he teams up with Blue Ear (a Super Hero with hearing aids) and a newly created Super Hero, Sapheara (a super girl with bilateral cochlear implants.) In an action-packed storyline, they work to save New York City while addressing some very important issues such as: bullying, hearing loss awareness, and hearing loss prevention. To further enforce the message of our Marvel custom comic book, CHI has created a Teacher’s Guide that will be distributed along with the custom comic book that will have fun facts and activities that directly relates to the comic.

“Current research is proving that with today’s new technology such as ear buds/iPods, and media gaming consoles, a younger generation is experiencing some degree of hearing loss. Part of our message is to educate this population (in an exciting way) on the potential dangers of technological and environmental noises.” says Dr. Simon Parisier, Founder of The Children’s Hearing Institute. “What’s unique is that Marvel helps translate the impact of this message by using Iron Man along with two other superhero characters who have already experienced hearing loss and use hearing aids and cochlear implants to hear.”

About Blue Ear: In 2012, this character was inspired by a true story about a four year-old boy who decided he didn’t want to wear his blue hearing aids because “super heroes don’t wear hearing aids.” In response, Marvel then created Blue Ear who was featured in an educational poster by a hearing aid manufacturer, but was never officially written into a story line. After receiving many inquiries over the past two years, Marvel and The Children’s Hearing Institute are proud to produce a Custom Comic Book to deliver our message. Blue Ear Comics
